Nikki Crain: Studio Tour Ten Artist
Posted by thedeeperwell in Nikki Crain, Studio Tour 10, Uncategorized on February 18, 2012
“I am a weaver, who first sat down at a loom in 1983, and have been on a learning odyssey ever since. My favorite pastime is designing new pieces and playing with colors, sometimes dyeing my own yarns. I make cloth that industry can’t produce. I prefer to work with natural fibers such as cotton, wool, silk and rayon. Why shouldn’t functional household items also be beautiful and bring pleasure to the user?
Math plays a big part in weaving and I like to take it to a higher level by using the Fibonacci sequence in many of my designs.”

“My art work revolves around my esoteric interests in in archetypes, auras, chakras, reiki, spiritual growth, and the universe. Therefore, I call my work Inter-dimensional. I had been interested in art and music in childhood. In the 1980’s I decided to renew my creative side with guitar, poetry and watercolor painting. I then experimented with oil, egg tempera, casein, chalk, and acrylic. Living in Three Rivers, thus being close to nature, allows me to re-charge the energy in my body and connect to the universe. This allows me to relax and paint. I enjoy writing poetry, playing with my guitar and designing web sites.”

For those of us who are hands-on creative persons, showcasing ourselves on the world wide web via the internet can be very daunting. This virtual world seems to move at super sonic speed far from the human pace of making art. Often we give up before we even start.
This class is based on this tenet:
Start just where you are.
Take one step at a time.
Start is the keyword here.
The professional artist is represented by their actual artwork, and also by what is said and read about their work on the world wide web. The wise and savvy artist needs to be in control of his or her own “brand” or name as it shows up in the virtual world. It’s like adding your name in the phone book, with a well-placed, complete, accurate ad in the yellow pages— a great presentation that you write, design and supervise yourself.
Do you want others telling the world about your work as an artist, or do you want your story told using your own creative voice?
